City limits
offers arcade games, bowling and a sports bar with huge screens.
It’s a place to spend an afternoon or evening with friends and
family. It is located inside the Xscape building in Central
Milton Keynes. City Limits host a large selection of food from
burgers, steaks, pastas and salads. We visited on a Sunday
afternoon after a great game of bowling downstairs.
Décor
The
restaurant has dimmed lights and has many tables for people to
come and eat, with a spacious bar area packed with a large
selection of beers and cocktails. There is a big spinning wheel
behind the bar much like “wheel of Fortune” giving you the
chance to win cocktails, shots and beers. This is mainly for the
weekends to promote new beverages and create a fun atmosphere in
the establishment. City Limits is known for its variety of shots
and cocktails; Purple Rain being the best seller (Blue Caraco,
Lemonade and Grenadine). City Limits pride themselves on good
preparation and sexy looking mixtures.
The table
clothes are made from paper for children and yes, you adults
too, to borrow crayons to draw pictures whilst waiting for your
food and chatting over your ice cold drinks.
Service
The service
was one of a kind for a chained restaurant. “Roo” short for
Andrew came over to our table and immediately made us smile with
his brilliant sense of humour. He made the whole table laugh and
we were immediately at ease. He asked us what type of food we
enjoyed and suggested various dishes we might wish to try from
the menu. Amusing stories came between meals and he liked to
wink a lot. Maybe he has a bad eye? The more we saw of Roo
however, the more we knew there was no bad eye.
Atmosphere
The restaurant
was quiet as it was a sunny day and our visit was a Sunday
afternoon hidden in the ski dome next to the cinema. I spoke to
the manager Simon who is trying to reinvent the menus and to
introduce new custom to the new brand, which has changed from an
Old Orleans recently.
Food
Sharer platter
for two 2
Please note -
do not count calories when having the shared platter, its deep
fried, with lots of batters and helpings of sauces. You receive
tasty breaded mushrooms, chicken, potato skins, bread sticks,
and hand falls of nachos (£7.95).
Mains
I
could not resist trying the Mixed Grill, which was huge. The
sausages were particularly enjoyable, meaty and tasty, and the
steak was tender with little fat. The pork chops were well
cooked with fat chips and also a succulent piece of chicken.
(£12.75).
My guest
selected the Lasagne. It came piping hot with those fat chips on
the side once more. You could not fault this dish but how can
you go wrong with such a classic? It was filling indeed with
plenty of crispy cheese. (£7.95).
The portions
were so large we had no room for dessert. But there are a few to
choose from including ice cream, cookies, brownies and sundaes.
Overall, the
food was a typical American dining experience. The staff were
excellent and the restaurant itself serves food that is good
value for your money. City Limits is worth a visit before the
cinema where the latest offers available at the time of writing
included the deal for two meals for just £12. |
