Food
We started
with a classic house special Caipirinha cocktail (£5.00) each to
wet our appetites whilst pondering over the vast new autumn /
winter menu. Mayya, our waitress was very attentive but with
such a mouth watering selection to choose from- and the
cocktails to distract our attention somewhat- it took a while
for us to decide. After deliberating we finally decided to go
for the nachos with chicken (£7.10) to start, a token Latin
favourite along with some delicious but fiddly Gambas (chilli
tiger prawns £5.20) to share. The starters were extremely
filling but gorgeous all the same, I would recommend sharing or
ordering from the tapas menu for a light starter to save room
for a main course and of course dessert!
Main Course
For our
main courses, my guest chose sirloin steak fajitas (£13.50)
which were served magnificently on a sizzling skillet
accompanied by hot tortillas and mini condiments including
guacamole, sour cream, salsa and cheese. After deliberating
between Cordero Asado (£12.50) my old faithful and Ximxim
(£10.00), I was pleased with my choice to favour Ximxim on this
occasion, a
Brazilian lime chicken in creamy crayfish and peanut sauce
served in a clay pan kept warm at the table over a flame,
accompanied with
rice, fine beans and sweet plantain. The fajitas however, were
disappointing with the steak being quite fatty and chewy as a
result.
Dessert
Unfortunately I was pretty stuffed by this point, and resorted
to loosening my belt a notch in order to squeeze a dessert
in-all in the name of research. I reluctantly (cough) opted for
the cheesecake (£4.30) served
with mango & cachaça sauce which was divine
whilst my guest went for a refreshing trio of sorbets (£4.00).
All dishes were presented and garnished elegantly and polished
off our Latino feast a treat.
Decor
With the
Latin vibe running through the restaurant this sets a glamorous
tone. The classy seating area with a panoramic backdrop of Rio
De Janerio
sets the scene and nails the theme the restaurant
is going for.
Service
Our waitress
Mayya was very friendly and attentive and recommended us a
couple of her favourite choices on the menu as well as the most
popular dishes. This was helpful as a new menu had been recently
introduced and I felt a bit overwhelmed by the selection and
Latin terminology used on the menu. The menu offers dietary
guidance and the option for gluten free and vegetarian
alternatives.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is extremely lively,
the Latin music and low lighting helps set the tone along with
the bar tenders impressive cocktail making skills. The bar area
was bustling, even on a Monday evening with those looking to
unwind after the 9-5 and with Happy Hour on offer frequently,
why not! The restaurant gets extremely busy at weekends and so
pre booking is recommended.
