The Black Horse Woburn, Fundraiser

The Black Horse tees off for charity; Woburn pub golf team raises over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support; second fundraiser planned for Friday 12th June 2009

A team of keen golfers from The Black Horse in Woburn took to the fairway last month for a charity golf day that raised over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.  Buoyed up by the success of the day, the pub has announced a second event at Millbrook golf course on Friday 12th June, where it hopes the total money raised for Macmillan will break through the £1000 barrier.

“We had a fantastic day at our first recent charity golf day and have already handed over £500 to Macmillan to support the really important work they do,” says Hugo Barnett, general manager of The Black Horse in Woburn.  “We held the day in remembrance of our friend Dee Hemindinger, having worked with her on many occasions to help her fund-raising activities for Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK.

“It was a terrific day; 22 enthusiastic players, wonderful weather and some great golf. Then we all repaired back to The Black Horse for some great – and well-earned – food and drink and a charity auction that boosted funds even further. We want to do at least as much again next time though and are calling on all keen golfers in the area to come and join us.”

Kate Benson, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in the area echoed Hugo’s call.  “It’s terrific to have had such great support from The Black Horse and from everyone who took part in the golf day.  Events like these help fund the vital services we provide for people living with cancer and without them, our work would be impossible.  We’re delighted that the pub is holding a second golf event in the next few weeks and hope as many people as possible will get involved and raise money so we can do even more to make a difference for everyone affected by cancer.”

The next Black Horse charity golf day in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support takes place on Friday 12th June from 9am onwards, starting with bacon sandwiches and coffee at Millbrook golf club.  It costs £50 to take part, with all money raised going to charity, and includes dinner afterwards at The Black Horse.

“The next golf day promises to be even bigger and better than the last, with prizes for the winning team and the runners up as well as spot prizes for the longest drive and nearest to the pin,” adds Hugo. “Why not join us for what promises not only to be a great day out but, importantly, one which also raises a lot of money for a very good cause.”
