My good
friends are fans of the Zizzi chain, having eaten at the theatre
district establishment on several occasions, I invited them to
try the new Zizzi at The Hub. They knew what to expect but were
pleasantly surprised with the impressive décor. This new
restaurant had a contemporary look with its high and impressive
ceilings. The views looking out onto the piazza are a delightful
sight on a sunny day. The restaurant was busy and bustling with
people relaxed and enjoying the ambience.
Once seated
promptly they sat back and relaxed sinking into the comfortable
furniture. Throughout the meal they were lucky enough to be
wined and dined by their attentive staff and manager Sinan who
was very helpful. Even the famous Paul Ince of the MK Dons made
an appearance in the restaurant that evening and seemed to also
enjoy his food.
The food is
Italian inspired with pizza, pasta, steak and salad.
Starters
Dan and Lucy started with a side of olives (£2.25) which were
de-pipped and tangy and a garlic bread with mozzarella. The
garlic bread was lacking cheese so Sinan fetched a new bread
with amples of cheese (£3.75). This was tasty and cooked to
perfection, not burnt, saggy or soft.
Mains
Dan ordered Carne Piccante Calzone £8.95, a folded pizza filled
with marinated chicken, meatballs, bolognese sauce, mushrooms,
chilli, mozzarella and tomato with a garnish of salad. “a
refreshing change to a normal rounded pizza, crisp and piping
hot in the centre” were his words. Lucy his partner had Bistecca
alla Griglia £14.95, a 10z sirloin steak grilled and served
smothered in a red pesto dressing, Tuscan style potatoes, which
are fried and seasoned with fresh Italian herbs, and a green
rocket salad with parmesan. “The steak was cooked to my liking,
medium to well done with a dollop of whole grain mustard. The
chips were hot and crunchy.”
The portions
are generous at Zizzi and well presented too.
Desserts
Lucy ordered Mela Croccante £4.75 Italian apple and amaretto
crumble served with ice cream, this was beautiful but prepare
for a wait as it takes 15 minutes to bake. Dan had to wait for
his Tartufo al Cioccolato £4.25 which is a truffle cake with
rich light and dark chocolate on a crunchy chocolate cookie
base. Another very impressive dish.
Desserts were
a success and both Dan and Lucy were happy. They would return
without hesitation, the service was prompt, the staff are
efficient and the food is fresh. There isn’t much to complain
about the new Zizzi accept to say that some of the tables are a
bit close together, and you may feel a little cramped on a busy
evening. |
