Aubergine fine
foods are located in the heart of Woburn Sands opposite Barclays
bank and the police station. We visited Jill and John on
Saturday afternoon to have some lunch and to sample some of
their fabulous ingredients in store. Aubergine is a delicatessen
offering a vast selection of cheeses, locally produced cold
meats, world teas, flavoursome sauces, healthy cereals, cooking
ingredients, rice, olives, scrummy biscuits and much more. You
can also order fresh seafood three days a week.
The shop
offers a small lunch menu to have drinks and food Monday to
Saturday. Your options are ciabatta sandwiches, gourmet salads,
special salads, smoked mackerel, pork pies, cheeses, olives,
teas, coffees and smoothies.
It was a
gloriously sunny day so we decided to take a seat out side
Aubergine with a view of the high street. Beware there is only
one table outside so we were lucky enough to acquire it on this
occasion. John (the shop owner with Jill) took our orders of ham
and cheese Panini £3.65 and for myself a walnut breaded sandwich
with red pepper, goats cheese and spinach £3.25. The Panini was
full of gooey cheese and tasty ham all produced locally. My
sandwich was soft, tender and full of flavour. The ingredients
and textures worked well together and the bread was cut in front
of my very eyes. This was better than any packet sandwich by
far. We had spotted a large Victoria sponge at the till area.
Jill had baked this at home and we simply had to have a slice at
£2.00. This was springing with lots of cream and jam. The sponge
was just right and perfectly made.
The glass
counter had these cheeses on offer:
|
Wigmore |
Wensleydale Comfex |
Lincolnshire Poacher |
Parmesan |
Goats cheese |
Harbourne Blue |
|
Pecorino |
Holmbury Cheddar |
Brie de meaux |
Gubbeen |
Manchego |
Stilton |
Aubergine have
amazing hampers to choose from for picnics and Christmas gifts.
They also
deliver platters to businesses and parties making your meetings
and special occasions memorable. I have heard they even supply
cheese wedding cakes!!
If you are
looking for some new treats and unique flavours and ingredients
then head down to Aubergine and visit Jill and John even if it
is just for the gorgeous cake. |
