NLP – 15th
January 2009
We
met at 9:30am inside the Midsummer business offices located in
thecentre:mk shopping centre. Sabine, our tutor for the day,
introduced herself in a friendly manner. “NLP and Anthony
Robbins changed my life for the better, I want to do my bit and
pass it on to you” she said.
After
receiving a couple of coffee tokens and a compulsory health and
safety tour we were ready to start our NLP Beginners Course. The
group consisted of four others that included retailers, market
researchers and marketers. The course costs £30 for a whole day
(lunch not included).
What is NLP?
It stands for
Neuro (connection between neurological processes), language
('linguistic') and behavioural patterns that have been learned
through experience ('programming') and was created in California
in the 1970’s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. They
together, studied three expert
therapists and
thought leaders in their respective fields, namely Fritz Perls,
Virginia Satir and Milton Erickson by filming many of their
sessions.
From their
findings they noticed how people reacted to different questions,
their body language changed, and many interesting patterns
arose. They noted their findings to create NLP, a toolbox of
very effective measures to create excellence and change
processes.
NLP has a wide
range of practical applications in business (e.g. management,
personnel, sales, consulting), training and development,
education, dyslexia, the helping professions, health,
relationships, writing and the arts, sports, parenting, hobbies
and personal development.
NLP aims to
help you:
|
▪ |
Learn
more effectively |
▪ |
Take action by using positive thoughts |
|
▪ |
Understand why people make decisions backed by their
belief system |
▪ |
How to think past your limitations |
|
▪ |
Help
break bad habits/patterns |
▪ |
Realise you have more choices in life |
|
▪ |
Have
fuller and richer lives by using solutions |
▪ |
Set and achieve goals |
|
▪ |
Learn how to assess people's eye movement |
▪ |
Building and maintaining rapport |
I found there
are lots of tools to
improve your effectiveness both personally and professionally.
This is explained by using stories, visual aids, poems, handouts
and this inspired me to work with others in the group.
Sabine kept eye contact with everyone, told fascinating stories
and involved the group using playful activities. All in all it
was a most enjoyable day, whilst learning and already applying
NLP techniques in the group, I had a lot of fun. I am looking
forward to the intermediate course. |
