Una Hotel,
Brighton Feb 08
My
girlfriend and I were lucky enough to review Hotel Una, a luxury
boutique hotel in Brighton. The theme of each room is based on
Rivers from around the world reflecting their unique patterns
and personalities. The owner of the hotel is an architect and
visions Una to be set in harmony throughout. Una is named after
his eldest daughter.
The hotel is
spotless even down to the dishes on show in a glass cabinet at
the lower levels of the stair case. The Hallways have lots of
character too showing off the local art. The old lift is worth a
mention as it judders upon each stop, exciting for the kids but
not those adults with a hangover travelling to the sixth floor.
Decor
The bar area is stylish with an array of fine wines, spirits and
selection of bottled beers. Cosy leather chairs are placed
around tiny tables to read a local paper or Brighton magazine.
The Room -
Danube
It's
all about the decor at Una. Each and every room is different to
the next. We had a personal tour around ten of the best rooms.
My mouth dropped with amazement at some of the furniture and
design features, fine detail and high spacious ceilings.
In our room
(Danube) we had a free standing bath for us to relax in whilst
watching the 42 inch rotating plasma TV which can in turn be
watched whilst in the super king sized bed with soft Egyptian
linen. The walls full of original local artwork. The pillows are
amazing, it's like your head melts into them and is a must for a
good nights sleep. We also had a large leather sofa that curved
around the back of the room with a connected foot/leg rest. The
hotel offers DVD Rentals to watch in your peaceful room FREE OF
CHARGE!
Service
The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. The General
manager Rin, a pleasant Asian lady greeted us and made us feel
welcome. The two concierges were crisply dressed and very
professional with good experienced knowledge of the area; they
couldn’t have been more helpful.
Food
On this occasion we only managed to have breakfast which was
delivered to our bedroom with a newspaper, a full non greasy
English breakfast with fresh apple juice (There is a selection
of fresh fruit, cereal and yoghurt also available together with
fresh tea and coffee). Our breakfast came on a tray to eat in
bed in front of the huge TV. We liked the room so much that we
ordered a takeaway and relaxed on the sofa the evening before.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere in the hotel is tranquil. Music in the bar area
is mellow and yoga like. The hotel will shortly have a full
dining restaurant named after the owners other daughter Mia. My
girlfriend and I are looking forward to reviewing the food when
the restaurant opens later this summer.
The whole
experience of Una was marvellous, my girlfriend and I plan to
visit again to experience some of the other luxurious rooms.
Each room is unique; some even have a private sauna and Jacuzzi.
Massages are available upon request from a qualified
physiotherapist.
Hotel Una is
constantly changing with small alterations being made to rooms
all the time. Una is currently developing a penthouse suite with
private cinema which I cannot wait to see. |
