With several mini
Sportacuses (so sweet!) and Stephanies in the
audience (most of the kids were under the age of
5), there was a great atmosphere as they awaited
the start of Lazytown Live. Indeed, if you are a
mum and take your daughter to see this show,
neither of you will look out of place adorning
pink wigs to transform you into Stephanie
lookalikes!
A child behind us
was asked by their parent, “Is this a nice
surprise?” to which they responded “Oh yes! I
can get to see Stephanie.” When glancing around
and looking at many of the parents, they were
clearly enjoying seeing their little ones so
entranced with the show.
Throughout the
performance including from the very start when
we are told “get ready to wave your fingers in
the air and help steer the ship to Lazytown”;
there is much interaction with the audience.
Sportacus (who received a loud cheer when first
appearing) encouraged the children to join him
in some of his aerobic routines ensuring that
many of those who participated will have slept
well when turning in for the night.
The costumes are
bright, colourful and vibrant and although the
set is simple, it is effective. Some of the
music and dance routines felt a little
repetitive at times but this didn’t seem to
bother the kids.
The star of the
show who received the most laughs was the
baddie, Robbie Rotten with his slapstick humour.
He almost looked like Jim Carey out of Mask and
he was able to change the mood as soon as he
entered the stage. He conjures up a cunning plan
to destroy Lazytown’s apple tree and the kids in
the audience are left on the edge of their seats
willing their superhero Sportacus to stop Rotten
from succeeding.
There are many
shouts of “behind you” as the kids play their
part to the full and it’s fair to say that I
enjoyed watching their reactions and smiley
faces more than the show itself. Quite simply,
if you want to treat the kids then take them to
Lazytown Live this week at Milton Keynes Theatre
(show runs until Saturday, September 5) –
they’ll love it!
