My Brilliant Divorce at MK Theatre reviewed by Philip Shell
Wednesday night saw the opening of the Autumn Season at the Milton Keynes Theatre, with the play My Brilliant Divorce by Geraldine Aron; and what a fantastic start to the season it was.

The play revolves around Angela played by the versatile and extremely funny Dillie Keane. The only other cast member is her dog, Axl who is a toy on wheels. This was a master class in humour and deliverance, and was excellently executed by Dillie. Her use of facial expressions and observational mannerisms brought the wonderful script of Geraldine Aron to life and lead the audience on a wonderful voyage of imagination.

The play revolves around Angela who learns that her husband Max is leaving her for another woman and then follows her through her long and adventurous divorce. Dillie is aided in her deliverance by clever staging (Michael Holt being the designer) and sound effects (Matt Bugg being the sound designer) that aid the imagination. The trip is extremely funny but is also full of pathos. For example Christmas is a particularly bad experience and after listening to the end of the Queens speech Dillie remarks, “After the Queen’s speech I rang a helpline”.

For those who have suffered divorce there is so much that rings true in the scenarios, thoughts and feelings that Dillie experiences.

Dillie executes her lines and humour with aplomb and keeps her audience captivated throughout even if there were a couple of moments requiring ad-libs! This is a must see show and should not be missed - Philip Shell.
