Holly Brewer as deserved winner of MK’s Top Talent

With over 140 original contestants, MK’s Top Talent reached it’s conclusion last Saturday (October 3) as the remaining 10 performers took to the stage at Milton Keynes Theatre. We already had our favourites, having watched the earlier Heats of this competition but it was always going to be a close run thing.

There was an electric atmosphere at the Theatre as friends and family sat in anticipation and many were as vocal as possible in support of their favourite act. Natalie Kassanga was first one stage and she got the show off to a fabulous start. She sang better than we had expected and although she did not win, she can walk away knowing she gave it her best shot.

Other noticeable acts to follow were the duet of Adam and Joe, Nathaniel Remy and MK Parkour. Adam and Joe had a massive following and have to be given credit for writing and performing their own songs but the judges obviously did not agree with the audience. Nathaniel Remy was next on stage and although he finished second overall, I fancy he would have won the competition had he sung a Motown Jackson 5 number. This kid has a unique voice and I am sure Milton Keynes will hear more of him in the future. MK Parkour, a group of close friends were the last act (street dancers) to perform before the break. They were totally captivating and real crowd pleasers and added a touch of comedy to their performance with one of the dancers in a cow costume. They were excellent and truly deserved their place in the final 10.

Holly Brewer was the act we most wanted to see and we had to wait until after interval to see her perform her rendition of Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You. This was, somewhat unbelievably, the first time Brewer had played the piano and sang on stage. You would never have guessed. She is the complete package and has a truly wonderful voice for someone who is just 14 years of age.

Original Genesis, a group of 3 dancers, had a hard act to follow, and I did not envy them at all, but they gave it everything they had. They danced with real passion.

Ella Austin was next on stage. She is a real cutie who we had expected to do well in the competition. She appeared to perform without nerves or fear and the audience loved her. She has a great future ahead of her.

Act 9 was Adam Gates, a rapper who also writes his own material, and saved his best until last - this was without doubt his best performance and he gained the respect of many people in the audience. Original and passionate he tailored his performance to Cinderella and clearly put so much work into this. His disappointment was understandable as he clearly thought he had done enough to win.

Tatiana De Souza was last to perform and this girl is a real performer. She knows how to sing and dance and she was another who gave it her all. She confirmed what a quality Final this was.

Well done to Holly Brewer – she proves that if you’ve got talent, you’ve got to be in it to win it! Keep an eye out for next year’s Top Talent competition!
