JAIPUR WINS BRITISH CURRY AWARD
Jaipur
in Grafton Gate East was one of 11 spice restaurants
throughout the UK honoured, 3 November, at the 2009 British
Curry Awards held at London's Battersea Evolution. Jaipur
won the award for the South East region. This year's British
Curry Awards winners were chosen from a record 40,000 public
nominations covering more than 2,700 restaurants.
Conservative party leader David Cameron was among the 1,500
guests who saw Jaipur pick up the award as the top curry
restaurant in the South East for the first time. Eleven
other South East restaurants were highly commended by the
judges.
The British Curry Awards are recognised as the 'Oscars' of
Britain's £3.5bn spice restaurant industry. Last night's
glamorous awards ceremony, hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald,
was the first to be attended by a political party leader.
David Cameron told the audience of restaurateurs, diplomats
and celebrity guests: "It's a real pleasure to be here at
the Oscars of the spice industry. The British curry industry
is a great success story. It's shown how people from all
backgrounds, with different creeds and cultures, can come
together as one. And it's shown exactly what an open-minded,
dynamic and enterprising country can achieve. Enam Ali,
founder and organiser - and everyone here this evening -
should be incredibly proud of what they've achieved."
Mr Ahad, Owner of the Jaipur said," This award is a great
recognition of the value we place on the delivery of
exceptional Indian cuisine and the high levels of service we
strive to maintain for our customers. This award is also
further recognition for our executive chef Amardeep Singh
Anand who has recently won the National Healthy Heart Award
for Asian Cuisine in the UK "
