Mary Berry is coming to the Winslow Farmers Market on Sunday (5th Sept) to help celebrate the market’s 1st birthday. Legendary Aga expert and author of over 40 cookery books, Mary opened the first Winslow Farmers Market last year. She will be bringing a copy of her latest book ‘Cook up a Feast’ to raffle and will also be selling signed copies of this book at the Winslow Farmers Market information stall. On Saturday 29th August, The Wonderland Collective, a talented group of graffiti artists drawn from across the creative spectrum, will use the pub’s traditional garden setting as the blank canvas for a unique piece of artwork; the Collective will create large scale artworks around the garden walls. The Swan at Salford near Milton Keynes is doing its bit to champion great local food and drink producers by holding a fantastic farmers’ market at the pub this coming Sunday, 28th June.  The event takes place between 9am and 1pm, with lunch served in the pub afterwards if you feel like whiling away the rest of the day in The Swan’s beautiful garden or vibrant eatery. THE BLACK HORSE RAISE £500 FOR CHARITY (posted May 19th, 2009)

A team of keen golfers from The Black Horse in Woburn took to the fairway last month for a charity golf day that raised over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.  Buoyed up by the success of the day, the pub has announced a second event at Millbrook golf course on Friday 12th June, where it hopes the total money raised for Macmillan will break through the £1000 barrier. PAPAYA OPENS - REVIEW COMING SOON (posted 28th April 2009)

Papaya, a new Thai restaurant located in Oxley Park, opened last month. The menu offers light, fresh and fragrant dishes. Papaya offer a good choice of Thai curries, sizzling dishes, salads, rice and noodles. We recently sampled their takeaway service and will be reviewing their restaurant very soon - so make sure you check this space next week to find out our thoughts on Papaya - the latest restaurant to hit Milton Keynes.

EMBANKMENT HOTEL APPOINTS NEW CHEF (posted 21st January 2009)
Christophe Perney has been appointed new head chef of The Embankment Hotel in Bedford, the third site, acquired last May, by Peach joint venture partner and former BII Licensee of the Year Andrew Coath. Christophe qualified in France and trained in Paris under Joël Robuchon and then at the Park Lane in London before relocating to the UK. Attracted by the prospect of holding sway in the kitchen whilst having the support and energy of a vibrant company like Peach behind him, Christophe joined the new team being built by Andrew at The Embankment. A totally new look to The Embankment will be unveiled at the end of March this year.

GREAT NEWS FOR THE NAVIGATION INN (posted 14th January 2009)
The Navigation Inn started the year in style with news that they had been voted in the top ten of riverside pubs in the whole of the United Kingdom in a Sunday Telegraph pole. This is no mean feat but no great surprise for a pub that continues to go from strength to strength. Work on their new fine dining restaurant is going well so watch this space for the latest news from The Navigation.

At MK Reviews we are big fans of the Peach Pubs and their restaurants - we have already given favourable mention to The Black Horse in Woburn and The Swan, Salford. We will soon be paying a visit to The Embankment in Bedford. This establishment was taken over in May of 2008, Andrew Coath and his team have worked hard to transform this gorgeous looking venue into a flagship pub. Watch this space for our review coming soon.

The much awaited Peter Pan, starring Henry Winkler and Louisa Lytton has finally arrived at MK Theatre. SNAP UP A DESIGNER DRESS FOR CHARITY, SAT 13TH SEPTEMBER (posted 11 August 2008)
SNAP up a Frock, an annual extravaganza of fabulous designer dress shopping, champagne sipping and lunching all for charity, taking place of Saturday 13th September. £8,000 was raised last year and this year they're hoping to raise even more for SNAP. Spooners are holding a fantastic Seafood Festival on 22 August. The new owners are holding several themed nights over the coming months and this one promises to be hugely popular. The Plough Wavendon, who received perfect marks from MK Reviews recently, has been voted "Buckinghamshire Restaurant of the Year 2008" by the Foodie Square Guide and it's readers. Jonathan Todd, owner of The Plough, is "extremely proud of this latest award" in what is The Plough's first year trading.

One of the few independent Italian Restaurants in Milton Keynes, The George Inn, Little Brickhill should definitely be on the 'must try' list for anyone who likes a taste of Italy.

By all accounts Spooners Restaurant in Woburn is a pretty unique dining experience and we will be visiting this restaurant soon having heard that it has changed hands recently. The new management are maintaining many of the traditions of Spooners, established since 1984, but are also bringing a taste of Russia to what looks an exciting menu. Watch this space!
NEW MENU FOR HARPURS.....(posted 19 May 2008)
Harpurs have updated their menu because the hunting seasons are over and all game has been removed from
the menu. Their new menu will run until the end of the summer, then the autumn menu will begin. An interesting addition to the menu is the kangaroo steak with chilli and coriander and raspberry and rose petal mille feuille. Weather permitting, they are also planning to have barbecues in their new garden area.

The main restaurant at The George Inn, Little Brickhill is situated in a conservatory and connections, who have won numerous awards for their food, are always keen to make improvements where possible.
