Dexters Grill, previously known as
Tootsies is located in the Xscape building. The restaurant is
renowned for its splendid hand-made burgers, all cooked on the
grill. Alongside a range of tasty burgers you will also find a
range of steaks and pastas on the menu and super foods for the
healthier eater.
Décor
The four of us were promptly shown to our comfortable booth but
we immediately noticed the hanging lamp was far too low. Us taller
guests were able to knock the huge red shade back and forth with
our heads - not very mature, but good fun after a few glasses of
rose wine. The restaurant has a bar to the left and a raised
dining area to the right. Decorated with classic film posters, Dexters has a real American feel.
Atmosphere
All the guests - families, friends and couples of all ages
around us looked cheerful. There was a genuine feel good
atmosphere to Dexters, a mood enhanced with lively music playing
in the background. A party was starting to brew.
Service
We were served by the ever smiling Donna who recommended most of
our dishes and our wine. She checked with us to make sure we
were happy with our food and tried to ensure we had an
experience to remember. All of us commented on her service and
how comfortable she made us feel.
Food
To begin we ordered the Chicken Wings £5.20, King Prawns
£6.95 and loaded nachos £4.95 to share from the centre of the
table. The wings had plenty of meat on them and were cooked well
leaving a tasty crispy coat. The nachos came with beef. Once these were polished off and more rose wine had been
drunk we ordered our main dishes.
I thought the option of chicken wings and ribs would work well together so
I followed my starter by ordering the baby back of ribs at £12.95.
A foot long piece of moist meat
arrived on my plate with a huge portion of chips. The outer
edges of the meat were nice and crispy. The sauce was scooped up
with every rib of meat placed in my mouth. One of my
guests sided with the king prawn curry £9.95 which was full of
Thai flavours. Once finished he commented that it was
satisfying and certainly worth ordering again - his partner agreed. Rib-eye
steak cooked medium/well £16.95 was served sizzling on the plate
and was polished off
in no time. Little fat remained and this provided another well cooked
dish for this particular guest who simply loves a good steak.
Another guest opted for the Cajun chicken Alfredo £8.95 which to
her surprise was overly spicy so be careful if you do not like
your food too hot. I
sampled this and found it scrummy; this was a large portion with
lashings of sauce. Super food salad £7.95 was also ordered for
us to share also.
This had root salad and vegetables to chew on with a varied mix
of nuts. This was quite tasty and refreshed the pallet.
Dexters is an excellent venue for the family to enjoy good food
with a varied menu at reasonable prices.
