My
partner and I visited Giraffe, a restaurant situated in the
shopping centre Milton Keynes. Their website states “we
want to create a friendly, welcoming place where a smile goes a
long way. It’s about exploring the wonderful foods from around
the globe and opening our ears to music from around the world.”
As we entered
we were acknowledge immediately and shown to our seats, a cosy
little booth which was private, yet looked straight out onto the
shopping centre, allowing you to see the world go by. With
rustic furniture, dark lighting, and South American Music
playing, the stage was set for a relaxing meal.
Our waitress came to introduce herself as Kate. A
lovely, bubbly girl who was friendly and helpful.
Food
We both ordered drinks. I ordered a regular Diet
Coke and my partner opted for the Lynchburg lemonade, one of the
special cocktails. It was incredibly refreshing and lively.
Kate returned to take our order but we were not
quite ready. She was very polite and gave us a few more minutes.
For starters we ordered Spicy “Jamaican Jerk”
Chicken Wings, hot, sticky and delicious with celery sticks
(£4.50). These were absolutely gorgeous and this was a generous
dish to start.
My guest ordered the Japanese crisp fried tiger
prawns, sweet chilli dipping sauce (£4.95). Another generously
sized dish, these were particularly tasty.
For
mains I ordered the Malaysian coconut curry laksa with chicken
and prawns. Shredded chicken, tiger prawns, bamboo shoots, snap
peas, flat rice noodles, bean sprouts, green onion, red chilli,
lime and coriander (£8.95). The chicken, was served in chunks as
opposed to being shredded and despite a long list of
ingredients, the coconut milk was the over powering flavour
throughout. If you like coconut, you’ll probably love this dish,
but despite being beautifully presented, I would not hurry to
recommend it.
My guest dived into his Grilled rib eye “Steak &
chips” bourbon and cracked pepper herb butter, watercress with
skinny fries or mash (£14.95). This was a quality piece of steak,
ordered medium rare and
cooked to perfection. The butter was tasty and the fries, which still had their skin on,
were lovely and crunchy.
Desserts
I ordered the Hokey Pokey ice cream sundae,
crushed honeycomb ice cream, chocolate sauce and crushed
raspberries (£4.95). This was a tasty finish to my meal but I
was unable to finish it. This would be a good choice as a
dessert to share.
My guest went very quiet on me as they tucked
into their Swiss Mountain Chocolate Cheescake, dark chocolate
sauce (£4.75). This was a generous sized portion, filling, and
tasty. Everything you could want in a dessert and we would highly recommend you give this a try!
Service
We have already mentioned the delightful Kate who
waited on us. The service was friendly and personal with
condiments brought to the table without asking and there
absolutely everything you can think of to go with your meal.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable
but also had an urban twist. The place was not buzzing for a
Friday night but our overall experience was a pleasant and one and
we thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
In summary, all the ingredients are fresh and if
you like the thought of trying speciality dishes from around the
world then this is the place to go.
Giraffe have a great selection of cocktails and
beers including Brooklyn New York larger and also offer a super
kiddie menu with lots for the youngsters to choose and enjoy.
Giraffe also have a very reasonable lunch menu,
only £6.95 for two courses and this is served up until 7pm.
