Atmosphere
We visited the restaurant on a Tuesday evening so there were
plenty of spare seats. I would say it was quiet and there was not much to
offer in terms of atmosphere but I have since been assured by
friends and colleagues it’s a different story at weekends when
it is busy and difficult to get a table on the night.
The menu was not overly complicated, with a good selection of
starters, mains for fish and mains for meat dishes. Loch Fyne is
predominantly a seafood restaurant so if like myself, you love
seafood, then please, please give it a try.
Décor
It has trendy décor, all glass panelling, chrome and pine tables
and chairs and pleasingly there is plenty of space between
tables.
Service
The staff were very friendly and helpful without being fussy or
intrusive. Our waiter Steve was knowledgeable and informative.
Food
Starters
There is a selection of Kippers, Mackerel, Squid, Shrimps and
Haddock Chowder for the sea lovers. In terms of variety there is
not much on offer for the meat eater, although we had a large
portioned Salad with Smoked Glen Fine Beef with Pancetta, Rocket
and Parmesan which is well worth a try (£6.00). The beef was
tender. My guest ordered Oysters on Ice with a selection of
accompaniments – chilli and coriander dressing, lemon wedges,
shallot vinegar and Tabasco sauce (£16). These were a tad on the
small side but tasted devine. Another portion could have been
good but greedy in my book or website!
Mains
Loch Fyne offers an array of fish dishes including Pan Fried
Salmon, Garlic Buttered Lobster, Bream, Fish Pie, Yellowfin Tuna
and Toking Prawns - all being as tasty as each other. I fancied
the Poached Loch Fyne Smoked Haddock with Mash, Spinach, Pea and
Wholegrain Mustard sauce (£11). The fish smoked well with lots
of flavour and was wonderfully spiced with creamy mash being
lapped up with the fresh spinach. My friend loves meat so
ordered the Glen Fyne Prime Hiland 8oz Sirloin Steak, dry-aged
for 28 days (£17). Considering we were in a fish restaurant,
this was enjoyable and well cooked.
Desserts
I went for a simple chocolate ice cream and they clearly buy and
serve a decent quality as my guest kept stealing mine.
Lock Fyne is worth a try, value for money and fresh! They now
have a restaurant in the new Hub area in Central Milton Keynes
so keep a look out for that review……. coming soon. |
