Karl
Seidler and Victoria Grigg took over the wine bar in December 07
and currently changing the bar in to a successful restaurant.
The menu has your expected pub classics to perfectly designed
dishes. This establishment is romantically lit and welcomes
families, friends and couples.
Décor
The bar is
situated on the high street on the left hand side of the road
coming from Milton Keynes. This is a charming little place
developing every week. They have a comfortable seating area and
always display fresh flowers from the local flower market. The
chairs are made from wicker and walls are warm cream. Specials
can be found on the constantly changing black boards.
Atmosphere
It’s best to
book a meal when it’s a band night, you can feel the build up to
the exciting evening ahead. Make sure you have your meal early
and leave enough room to let your food digest before getting up
to party. For a quieter more relaxing experience, book your
table on a non-event evening. Fridays and Saturdays are always
busy.
Service
The
management and staff are a close nit team with a number of them
living in-house. You can see they have strong report together
which helps them to deliver the good service you would expect.
They are well organised and communicate well.
Food
OWB
offer soups of the day which are prepared just hours before and
accompanied with piping hot bread (£4.50) yum! The carrot and
coriander soup is creamy and delicious with a brilliant colour.
Another very tasty starter is seared home cured salmon with
leek, bacon and cider vinegar dressing that bursts with
flavours, as you can tell I chose this to start my evening meal
(£6.50). This dish is eye catching and light.
For mains I
was recommended one of the specials - Quile served with mash
potato and root vegetables drizzled in game jus (£12.95). This
is rich in flavour and arrives like a piece of artwork on your
plate. The meat was tender and crispy on the outside. My guest
loves sausages so selected their Cumberland sausage in a ring
with mustard mash and onion gravy. This came with a poached egg
that I eventually stole for myself! (£9.95). The mash could
have been creamier but the mustard flavour worked well. The
portion was again very generous. Homemade fish and chips are
another popular choice with regular guests.
The Olney
wine bar is up-and-coming with a young team working hard to
build a reputation for trying new food and cooking simple food
well.
Make sure you
visit Karl and Victoria through out the week and keep an eye on
their live entertainment on Fridays and Saturday night. |
