This
restaurant review was undertaken on February 12, 2009
It was a
Thursday evening and we had little time to book a restaurant. A
friend and I were in need of a good catch up and bite to eat. We
sampled a visit to revolution bar located in the Xscape building
for its newly formed Italian menu that we’d heard through the
grape vine was fantastic value for money.
Décor
The
refurbishment is looking great and well maintained, it’s easy to
let standards slip but not Rio, the manager who keeps adding and
growing the brand in every way possible. My companion and I sat
at a comfortable booth near the entrance. The bar is well spaced
with dining tables jotted around the edges allowing customers to
sit on high stalls and stand at the bar.
Service
Rev’s, as the
Milton Keynes public knows it is best described as a bar that
sells many types of Vodka’s, cocktails and lagers. There has
been a huge push to offer great valued, tasty food with a
supreme service. Our waiter was friendly and helpful but lacked
confidence in the menu and ingredients. This is being addressed
by daily training and hard work as I write.
Food
We commenced
with a side of olives with balsamic vinegar, dark in colour and
full of pungent sweetness mixed with a layer of extra virgin
olive oil that arrived in a large pot. The olives - as most,
were moreish and within minutes my guest and I had polished them
off.
When you think
pizza, the average brit thinks about cheese and tomato with
regular toppings such as pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and
peppers, The Italian way in many ways. Here at revolution they
have the edge by offering you their inventive ideas and concepts
at a tempting price.
A
Chinese Pizza was on my guests mind and soon enough his duck and
hoi sin pizza arrived £6.95. Shredded duck, cucumber and spring
onion drizzled with hoi sin sauce. This is the restaurants best
seller and regular customers come back in droves to buy this
huge tasting pizza. The hoi sin sauce has a real kick that wets
the pallet on every bite. Revolution Vodka Pizza £7.95 (their
own creation) tender strips of chilli vodka glazed chicken,
chorizo, goats cheese and mozzarella with sweat chilli peppers,
fresh rocket and balsamic glaze was my choice and was like no
other pizza I’d sampled. I am a fan of chorizo sausage and happy
to see this ingredient on the menu, always a winner on pizza.
The vodka chicken and chilli tingled in the mouth and the sauce
was no ordinary tomato base. The dough was bombed with rocket
and well received with the left over olive oil.
Atmosphere
It was a
subdued evening until about 9pm when the music started to pump
out in the dance area. The tunes were belting and flaring to the
point that it was hard to have a conversation so eating early is
a must.
I suggest
making a trip to Revs and sampling their inspirational pizzas,
the menu also offers a selection of wraps and sandwiches along
with a good choice of burgers. A Saturday or Sunday afternoon
would be a perfect time to visit revs in the midst of your
shopping trips at the centre: mk |
