The recently
opened Verandah Talk is a new Indian and Lebanese restaurant
located in Wolverton. The mixture of mild spices and aroma's
attract a vast number of people from various backgrounds. We
visited Verandah on a Sunday whilst a local radio station was
throwing a party. For those a little unsure - Lebanese food
usually comes grilled, baked or sautéed in olive oil and leans
very much towards healthy eating.
Décor
This
restaurant, located at the end of Stratford Road has been
decorated with a bright white finish. It is hard to miss when
driving or walking past. Verandah’s furnishings are rustic and
look great with the open, brick pillars. The interior is simple
and clean cut, simple and effective! Shisha pipes (hookahs) will
be introduced in the next couple of weeks and these be located
upstairs adjacent to the much talked about Verandah.
Service
The new team
are already working well together. They were helpful and
reassuring.
Atmosphere
Verandah Talk
has a warm and welcoming ambience. This Indian / Lebanese
restaurant is already popular with the local community. The
relaxing music is charming and fun to listen to whilst dining.
Food
As a lover of lamb chops I could not resist the option to start
with these, marinated in yoghurt and wild spices. The crispy fat
and tender meat fell of the chargrilled bone. At £5.45 for 4
generous pieces, this almost inspired me to order this as a main
course too! The lamb is delicious, juicy and lean.
My guest went
for a light choice of hummus with garlic and lemon £3.95.
Crushed and blended chickpeas arrived with fresh pita bread. The
hummus portion was vast to say the least. The flavours were
refreshing and exciting - another good choice to start.
Goan fish
curry at £6.95 (monk fish chunks delicately cooked in coconut
milk, curry leaves and a blend of Indian spices) was my choice
for main course. This dish arrived in a cute copper looking
mini-bucket. The curry tasted fantastic - offering a
tantalising, tangy and spicy flavour to the pallet. With this I
ordered a keema rice (pilau rice tossed with minced lamb) at
£2.95 and a bullet naan bread which is loaded with chillies and
coriander at £1.95. I felt there were maybe too many chillies
added this time around. This was hot!
My guest
ordered the saag paneer as her main choice - chopped spinach,
cubed cottage cheese cooked with tomatoes, mild spices and
finished with a touch of cream £4.45 and pilau rice £1.95. This
was amazingly different and hugely satisfying!
To finish the
meal we ate the lemon cheesecake £3.95 and a suspense pudding -
vanilla ice cream with sticky crushed hazel nuts at £2.95. The
lemon cheesecake had an interesting spongy base. This arrived a
little frozen but once thawed tasted refreshing and tangy. The
suspense disappeared from my guest’s plate in a matter of
moments and she clearly loved every mouthful!
We enjoyed the
experience – this is a restaurant well worth visiting with
friends and family. At no stage will you feel rushed. Verandah
Talk is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene in Milton
Keynes – a restaurant that will no doubt grow in stature over
time.
