The Lamb Stoke GoldingtonFour miles north of Newport Pagnell lies the Lamb public house (Stoke Goldington). This popular pub has been run for 9 years by husband and wife Steve and Rachel, and their daughter and son-in-law Lucy and Richard. We took a short drive to this real, traditional pub on a Sunday afternoon for lunch at 1pm.

Décor

The bar is on one side of the building and specialises in serving a selection of real fine ales. The pub is furnished with traditional furniture, trinkets and a toasty warm fire.  The restaurant on the other side of the bar area is simple and intimate with a blue and white colour scheme. Blackboards on the wall host a regularly changing menu.

Service

The Lamb is a traditional English pub that serves food, they do not claim to be a restaurant therefore, all drinks are ordered at the bar. Food is ordered and served to tables. All staff are welcoming, friendly and will make you feel comfortable. The staff also make an effort to remember their guests first names which is nice to see. Listen out for Richard’s cheery laugh.

Atmosphere

The pub is full of locals and has a warm and charming atmosphere. Shoots, walkers and folk musicians also enjoy this venue throughout the year. Look out for Tilly the dog who is usually snoozing by the fire. In the bar area there are traditional games and puzzles to play whilst enjoying your drink of choice.

The Lamb Stoke Goldington changes their menu daily and uses fresh local produce from the fruit and veg market traders who are based next door.

As we visited on a Sunday afternoon we decided to sample their much praised roast dinner.

The Lamb serve a choice of four different meats : chicken, lamb, pork and beef which is accompanied with seasonal vegetables. Choose one meat for £8 or a mixture of all four for £9.

My guest and I both opted for a full mixed roast, which, as well as veg comes with two Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, pork scratching and a big jug of gravy. The roast parsnips and potatoes were crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside – amazing!!! A large portion of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and cabbage were also beautifully cooked. The two portions would fill 3 grown men and we struggled to eat all of the generous food given to us. The crackling is a must and has the wow factor.

After a massive rest of at least 30 minutes, we tried the talked about white chocolate challenge £3.50 and cheese board also at £3.50. The chocolate dessert is a sponge and cream layered cake topped with white chocolate and chocolate wafer. This is rich, sweet and was indeed a challenge as again a huge portion is given. The cheese board includes 5 cheeses and a mixed selection of crackers. We were told that Lucy the cook loves to select the cheeses she is a cheese board lover. We were impressed with her choices.

The Lamb is a brilliant traditional country pub and definitely deserves a visit. The entire menu is fantastic value for money and cooked to a high standard. The Lamb Stoke Goldington was awarded the CAMRA pub of the year 2008 for Milton Keynes and North Bucks.
